Adding Heathy Games to your holiday gathering.

During the holidays, there is a great tendency to be seated for a prolonged period of time eating and drinking. After all, that’s what the Christmas and New Year holidays are about mostly..hahaha!

Some have a tradition of adding games to their party or family and friends gathering to celebrate during the holidays or any festive period. This is a great program to keep everyone engaged. However, a conscious effort has to be made to ensure these games are not another sedentary sets of activities that keep all sitting for longer than 20mins at a stretch, as research on the American College of Cardiology website has shown that sitting for 10 hours or more per day, results in increased risks of heart failure and cardiovascular ( other heart related) death, even in persons who indulge in regular exercise!.

Here are some suggestions on healthy fun games activities during this holiday or festive gatherings:
1. Asking someone to come up with a unique dance step while all others join in the dancing for 10 minutes and rotating this request among all present at the event.


2. Informing all in advance to choose and develop creative balanced meal:  starter, main course, desserts or drinks. All can vote for the best meal after eating/drinking, then stand while the winner(s) explain the recipe and how prepared.


3. Alternating between sitting and standing while a few persons ( if a large crowd) or all give a minute  pep positive talk, or chat to motivate all present.
