Myself-Care & Wellness

You would think being a member of the  healthcare profession, self-care and wellness would come to me naturally. Nope! I am also struggling to keep fit, eat right, be in the right mental and emotional state always.

You see, Self-care is a journey. You do all your wellness activities continuously in, say, a few weeks and then you fall behind in a few days. That’s natural and should not discourage us at all. The key is to keep trying every day, and whenever you slack off, just pick yourself up and try again; after all, ” everyday is not a Christmas day.” This is a local adage that means  things around you can’t be rosy always or every day.

Here are some components of Self-care;

1. Physical Self-care: eating right, sleeping well, exercising regularly, drinking plenty of water daily, seeing your doctor for your routine checkup as due.

2. Mental Self-care:  Practicing mindfulness, controlling stress level, reading to keep your brain engaged.

3. Emotional Self-care: making empathy your watch word while setting boundaries for yourself. Seeking joyful activities e.g. dancing.

4. Social Self-care: keeping friends and family relationships that bring out the best in you and avoiding those that sap your energy.

5. Spiritual Self-care: The power of dedicating a few minutes to meditate/pray daily can not be overemphasized.  Be thankful, even when it looks like there is nothing to be grateful for. Just look closely around you, and you will find one or more things to be thankful for.

Other Self-care components are your work-life balance and financial planning to help you on your Self-care journey.

This seems like a lot, right? Just focus one Self-care goal at a time, and gradually, it will become a way of life for you. Remember, I am doing the same with you because it’s also for me, myself-care and wellness goal.

Cheers and live healthy daily.
