Aging is the gradual decline in biological function over time, leading to decrease in once easy and every day activities, vulnerability to chronic disease and general decline in normal body functions.
Aging has a science behind it, involving how our cells divide or stop dividing after a certain number, leading to waste cells accumulating to cause tissue damage over time. Our genes are involved in the aging process, including DNA damage and repair process, as well as the energy house of the cells called Mitochondrial, which starts to age and becomes less effective in producing needed body energy.
Ways to Age gracefully
While in recent times some people are resorting to the use of drugs and all kinds of devices to slow their aging process, here I want to focus more on the non-medicines ways to slow the biological aging clock versus your chronological age as follows:
- Consciousness about what you eat, when you eat and how you eat.
- Individualized exercise regimen tailored to your specific needs as you age.
- Sleep and rest quality – the how and when
- Physical Self care – outwardly and inwardly
- Your mental health awareness strategy.
