A lot! This is my response to the question. While I am not a professional musician, I know a thing or two about a good soul relaxing music because I indulge in it for my peace of mind and joy.
Now, let’s get a bit more serious on the topic. Music is a powerful tool for improving both mental and physical health, with claimed benefits ranging from stress relief and pain management to enhanced brain function and emotional wellbeing as reported in various studies. Here are a few of these benefits of a good music, which my high school teacher defined as ” an organized sound which is pleasing to the soul”.
Some few Key Benefits of what music does to your health and wellness.
Mental
• Music can reduce anxiety, depression, and emotional distress, and improve mood and quality of life.
• Listening to or making music triggers neurochemicals like dopamine and serotonin, supporting mental wellbeing and emotional regulation.
Physical Health
• Music interventions may help manage pain, lower blood pressure, and improve sleep quality.
• Active music-making can boost cognitive functions and memory, especially in older adults.
Quality of Life
• Regular engagement with music-listening, singing, or playing an instrument-can enhance both mental and physical aspects of quality of life.
Personalization
• The effect of music is personal and can vary based on individual preferences, emotional state, and context.
• Music can improve mood, decrease pain and anxiety, and facilitate opportunities for emotional expression.
